Anker Innovations Initiates Global Voluntary Recall for Select Power Banks

Earlier this year, Anker implemented a series of enhanced quality assurance protocols designed to detect manufacturing issues earlier in the production cycle. These safeguards—including expanded component-level audits and supplier testing—helped us identify a potential issue with common, lithium-ion battery cells from a single vendor.

While the likelihood of malfunction is considered minimal, out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to initiate a voluntary global recall of several Anker power bank models. We have formally notified and are coordinating with regulatory authorities in all regions to ensure the recall is conducted in compliance with all applicable local guidelines.

The following products may be affected:
- Anker Power Bank (20,000mAh, 22.5W, Built-In USB-C Cable) — Model A1647
- Anker Zolo Power Bank (20K, 30W, Built-In USB-C and Lightning Cable) — Model A1681
- Anker Zolo Power Bank (20K, 30W, Built-In USB-C Cable) — Model A1689

How to Tell If You Have an Affected Power Bank

Step 1: Check your model number—located on the bottom or side of your power bank.
If it matches one of the following models (A1647, A1681, A1689), proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: Verify your serial number or submit your proof of purchase using our online recall form: http://www.anker.com/uk/rc2506-form

Note: Please carefully review the letters and numbers in your serial number, such as "1," "L," "l," "2," and "Z." Characters like "0" (zero) and "O" (letter O) are easily confused. Affected serial numbers do not contain the letters "O" or "I."

To receive a replacement device or gift card, you must upload a photo of the affected power bank showing:
- The model number, serial number, and power bank's name.
- The date of the photograph.
- The word "recall" or "recalled" written clearly on the device in permanent marker.

You will also be asked to confirm that the power bank has been disposed of in accordance with applicable laws and regulations before receiving a replacement.

How to Safely Dispose of Your Power Bank

After you've received confirmation from Anker that your device qualifies for a replacement or gift card, please dispose of the affected unit at a certified facility that accepts recalled lithium-ion batteries.

Do not throw this recalled lithium-ion battery in a household bin, in general recycling bins (e.g., street-level or household recycling bins), or in standard used battery drop-off boxes. These are not equipped to handle recalled lithium-ion products.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the issue with the power bank?

We identified a potential manufacturing defect involving lithium-ion battery cells supplied by a single vendor. These cells, commonly used in the consumer electronics industry, were included in five PowerCore models sold in multiple markets.
This issue was detected through enhanced quality assurance protocols Anker recently implemented following a previous recall. While the likelihood of malfunction is considered minimal, we are initiating a voluntary recall out of an abundance of caution.

Where can I find the serial number on my device?

The product serial number is usually printed on the side or back of the product. Please refer to the image below.

Note: Please carefully review the letters and numbers in your serial number. Numbers or letters such as "1", "L", "l", "2", "Z", "0" (zero), and "O" (letter O) look similar and can cause confusion. Affected serial numbers do not contain the letters "O" or "I".

Which models are affected?

This voluntary recall applies to the following Anker PowerCore models:
- Anker Power Bank (20,000mAh, 22.5W, Built-In USB-C Cable) — Model: A1647
- Anker Zolo Power Bank (20K, 30W, Built-In USB-C and Lightning Cable) — Model A1681
- Anker Zolo Power Bank (20K, 30W, Built-In USB-C Cable) — Model A1689

What should I do if my power bank is affected?

- Immediately stop using the unit.
- Do not dispose of your power bank until you receive confirmation from Anker that your device is affected.
- Click the "Submit Recall" button for instructions on how to request a replacement or gift card.

Can I continue using the power bank if it seems fine?

No. Even if the device appears to function normally, any device confirmed to be part of this recall should stop being used immediately due to the risk of overheating, melting, smoke, or fire.

How should I dispose of the recalled power bank?

After receiving confirmation from Anker that your unit qualifies for a replacement or gift card, please dispose of the affected unit at a certified facility that accepts recalled lithium-ion batteries.
Do not throw this recalled lithium-ion battery in a household bin, in general recycling bins (e.g., street-level or household recycling bins), or in standard used battery drop-off boxes. These are not equipped to handle recalled lithium-ion products.
Recalled lithium-ion batteries must be handled differently from regular batteries because they present a greater risk of fire.
